You ready to punch deck, space cowboy?
Cyberspace in HellMOO is based on the Matrix from the William Gibson novels, not the shitty Keanu Reeves movies. If you're unfamiliar with the novels, imagine the movie Hackers, or the game Uplink, for a different reference.
There are a few VERY IMPORTANT things to remember:
- When you're jacked in, your body will be helpless in the real world.
- See above.
What you will need
When you jack into your deck (), the first thing you're greeted with is your deck's Login Node.
A Node in cyberspace is like a room in the real world. You should also be greeted with a list of Links. A link is like a door or exit in the real world, but instead of having a direction, they have a number.
To check the links in a room, type. This is a lot like the command in the real world.
You navigate by simply typing the number of the link you wish to travel to. Let's check out your Control Node, shall we?
Inside your control node is your Storage Node, and a link back to the Login Node. Your storage node is where any programs or other data that you may have downloaded will be stored. Let's go there.
Your Storage Node is a Datavault, or Vault for short. You can use the command 'vaults' to see which other vaults, if any, you currently have access to. The command, where is the number of a vault, will let you change your currently selected vault. Any files you copy will automatically go to your currently selected vault.
You can use the commandin a node to see what files are there. The command , where is a file number, will copy that file. You'll see a progress bar and will be notified when it's done. If you leave before the file is done downloading, it will automatically abort.
You can delete files from your currently selected vault with thecommand.
While navigating around cyberspace, you may come across other console cowboys in a node. The commandsand emotes all work as normal. There is no combat (yet), but you can at other people in the matric to see what they have set their avatar as. You can set your own avatar with . You can also access Chatnet, Zotnet, etc. as normal from inside cyberspace.
If you want to see a list of programs in your currently selected datavault, you can use the command. To run one, use .
To see a list of programs you are currently running, use. To stop one of those programs, use .
You can only run a certain amount of programs at one time - each program takes up memory, and when you have no more memory, you'll have toa program before you can run another.
Gym brains. Locate wikipedia on the internet and gym your brains. It's much easier than going to WOPR.
